MS SPORTS EXPO SET FOR AUGUST 6TH

June 1, 2011, Jackson, MS - The largest sporting event to ever hit Mississippi is coming to town just in time before school starts.  Get ready to play, perform, and participate in the second annual Mississippi Sports & Fitness Expo on Saturday, August 6, 2011.  Doors open at 2 p.m. at Smith Wills Stadium in Jackson, MS.  Games start at  3 p.m.

Hundreds are expected to converge at the Stadium for the state’s only sports expo that promotes health, fitness, wellness, and Mississippi’s homegrown athletes.

New for this year’s Expo include 8 sporting events:

·        Youth/Teen Athlete of the Year

·        Father & Daughter Team of the Year

·        Home Run Derby

·        Football Obstacle Course

·        Short Game Putting

·        3-Point Shot & Slam Dunk Contest

·        Largest Zumba Class Showcase in MS

·        Children’s Young Sport Playground

All participants are encouraged to showcase their skills for a chance to win, whether competing casually or competitively.  Winners and supporters will celebrate at the Championship Party later that evening at 6 p.m.  Chef Nick Wallace of Hilton Garden Inn (formally the King Edward Hotel) will host the party with food demonstrations and a live band.  The Expo will culminate with the most extensive fireworks show in Mississippi.

The Mississippi Sports & Fitness Expo is a sure way to encourage young people to participate in sports and physical activity.

“It’s time to defeat Mississippi’s overweight battle,” says Expo Founder Marc Rowe.  “Obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure have plagued our state for too long.  Now, our children are suffering from the same ailments.  Not only does the Expo showcase hundreds of hometown athletes, but it also exposes the community to fitness options.  Exercise should be fun.  The Expo conveys that message.”

Food, retail, and information vendors are also encouraged to set-up booths at the Expo.  Vendors will receive a table, chairs, and trashcan.  For a flat fee of $10, you can participate in any of the competitions.  Proceeds benefit the Jackson Medical Mall Foundation Childhood Obesity Project.

Sponsors include Hilton Garden Inn, Team 82, and Lady Godiva Productions.  For more information about sporting events, fees, deadlines, and sponsorship opportunities, log onto www.mssportsexpo.com or call 601.672.2087.
